The 5 Teile, one by one
Globales Lesen, matching texts to headlines
You read several short texts (think: forum posts, small ads, notices) and match each one to the headline that fits. It's pure skimming, you're after the gist, not the detail.
The trap: over-reading. People translate every word and burn five minutes on a question worth seconds. Read the headlines first, then skim the text for the one idea that matches. If two headlines feel possible, the wrong one usually repeats a word from the text literally, the right one paraphrases the meaning.
Detailverstehen, the long article
One longer text with several multiple-choice questions (a / b / c). This is where careful, detailed reading pays off, and where most people lose time.
The trap: reading the whole article first, then the questions. Do it the other way around. Read question 1, find its answer in the text, move on. The questions follow the order of the text, so you're never hunting backwards.
Selektives Lesen, match statements to texts
You get several short texts (often ads or listings) and a set of statements like "This person is looking for a flatshare near the university." Your job is to find the matching text for each, and to notice when none matches.
The trap: forgetting that some statements have no match. Scan for specific details (price, time, place), not vibes. A text that mentions the right topic but contradicts one detail is a decoy.
Richtig / Falsch / Nicht im Text
A notice or opinion piece with statements you mark richtig, falsch, or nicht im Text (not in the text).
The trap: the "nicht im Text" option. If something feels true from common sense but isn't actually stated, it's nicht im Text, not richtig. Only mark richtig/falsch when the text explicitly supports it.
Sprachbausteine, the cloze
A short text (often a formal letter or notice) with gaps. You choose the missing word for each gap from the options. This tests vocabulary and grammar, connectors, prepositions, verb forms.
The trap: treating it as "the hard grammar one" and rushing it. These are free points if you know the Wortliste. Read the full sentence around the gap, the word before and after usually decides the case or preposition.

How to actually practice Lesen
Reading about the format gets you maybe 20% of the way. The other 80% is reps. With two to six weeks to go, this routine works:

- Review every wrong answer the same day. Not "I'll look later", the Lösung only sticks if you read it while the question is fresh.
